Treasured Gems
Deserve Proper Care

Pearls and organic gems (like LaPearlite™) take special care to prevent scratches and chips from harder gemstones and metals. The differences in hardness, toughness and stability as well as how you store, clean and wear these gemstones will determine their beauty and durability over time.

There is a difference between hardness and toughness, while seemly the same they are not. Hardness refers to the gemstones resistance to surface scratching while toughness is the ability to withstand impact from a blow. Think of, bone china, while very hard and resistant to scratching it is not tough and will shatter easily.

Resistance to chemicals, lights, and temperature change refers to a gemstone’s stability. Stability can be affected by simple household cleaners such as bleach and chlorine from swimming pools. These chemicals can damage some gemstones and precious metals for this reason it is always best to remove all jewelry before entering a chlorinated pool.

LaPearlite is a very tough stone but lacks hardness and can be scratched, also as with pearls special care needs to taken to preserver the gems stability and should avoid chemicals at all times.

Treasure your LaPearlite with proper care and enjoy the beauty and luster of a true Louisiana gemstone – a Précieux bijou.
