Learn More About Anne Dale Jewelers
The Biggest Little Jewelry Shop in New Orleans
Anne Dale Jewelers is a family owned and operated fine jewelry store location in Mandeville, Louisiana. Since 1983 owners Michael & Anne Dale have prided themselves on the quality and customer service in New Orleans community.
The Dale family’s heritage of engravers and jewelers goes as far back as the late 1800’s in New Orleans. Arthur C. Dale (Michael’s grandfather) a photo-engraver was the shop foreman for the New Orleans Engraving and Photo-etching Company. French artist and master engraver Francois Bildstein (1855-1935) (Michael’s great-great-uncle) began training Arthur as an apprentice at the young age of sixteen in 1899. Bildstein is credited for his art work and engravings in “The Mascot” a historical New Orleans publication from 1882 to 1897. Bildstein’s photo-engraving company with (Arthur Dale leading the shop) did most of their work for the States Item and New Orleans Times-Picayune publications.
About a generation later in the 1970’s the Dale family operated jewelry trade shops serving many retail jewelry stores in the New Orleans area. Debbie Dale (now retired) began her career as an engraver\bench jeweler at Aucion-Hart in Metairie, later she would relocate to Hammond and was the master jeweler at Anton Quilly Jewelers with five jewelers working under her guidance. It was about this time while attending Southeastern University Michael Dale (Debbie’s younger brother) would come on board and begin learning the jewelry trade.
By the early 1980’s Michael had branched out on his own running a full trade shop, providing expert jewelry repair, custom design, diamond setting and casting of precious metals. His many wholesale accounts included Kay Jewelers, JB Robinson Jewelers, Gordon’s, Zales, Baily Banks and Biddle, Wilson’s Brothers Jewelers as well as many independent jewelry stores. Engaged to his high school sweetheart Anne Ferrara, (a professional real estate salesperson at the time) she began studies with the Gemological Institute of America by the time they were married Anne Dale had become a Graduate Gemologist from GIA. Anne Dale’s passion to know more about diamonds and gemstones would have her relocate to Silver Spring, Maryland to apprentice of the renown gemstone expert Antonio Bannano (founder of the Accredited Gemologists Association). Mr. Bannano would make Anne Dale his prodigy as she worked in his laboratory during the day and studied for the covenant Gemmological Association of Great Britain diploma at night. In 1986 Anne Dale would receive the highest educational diploma in the gemstone and jewelry field being aware a Fellow of the Gemmological Association of Great Britain (years later Anne Dale would become the United States representative for this organization now known as Gem-A).
In 1990 when Wilson Jewelers owner Alvin Wilson (Wilson Brothers Jewelers – the largest catalog jewelry operation in the country at the time) decided to retire he encouraged the Dale’s to open a retail store in marketplace. The Wilson Brothers had a long history in the River Parishes (dating back to World War II) and Michael Dale had built a following by working directly with the customers in the store. In 1990 the Dales had two life changing events the birth of their first child (Stephen) and the grand opening of Dale Jewelers in LaPlace, Louisiana. Opening in a modest 1,200 square foot store front within three years the business would be expanded to nearly 2,000 square feet – in short order this family jewelry business would become the premiere jeweler in the River Parishes.
The about us section became larger as the turn of the century approached the Dale family grow adding a son Paul and daughter Grace to complete the family – when a new inspired business opportunity presented itself. While on a religious retreat at the Saint Joseph Abbey Monastery in Covington, Louisiana Anne reflected on the beauty and peace of the night’s sky saying “wouldn’t it be wonderful to live in a place like this”.
While Dale Jewelers had steady growth in the River Parishes and the family enjoyed the close-net community there was another market that was exploding with growth just a short distance away, Saint Tammany Parish the north shore of New Orleans.
Anne Dale Jeweler was opened in May 1999 at 12 Saint Ann Drive in Mandeville a short distance from the Saint Joseph Abbey the family’s church and where eldest son Stephen was married in Oct 2015 to the lovely Kristina Temple.
Anne Dale’s approach is very personal and intimate, we believe one of our greats attributes is our size (not to big – not to small) a one-on-one unique experience for our clients.
